Something ‘bout a bow.

The perfect package needs the perfect bow, it is an absolute must. Not having one is like forgetting to put the cherry on top of a exquisitely crafted ice cream Sunday- it’s tragic! It can be simple and classic or more elaborate and ornate but no matter what, its overall importance to the presentation of a gift is immeasurable. Crafting the perfect bow is the tricky bit and typically starts with picking out the perfect ribbon. For years I have had a jar in my studio space that is full of strips of ribbon (my now husband even teased me about this collection of ribbon when we first started to date), but I’ve always had a thing for buying beautiful ribbon when I see it and being able to use it as occasions arise!

For Petit Post, it was important to me to pick a type of ribbon for our collections that was both classically cute and functional (it needed to hold together stacks of vintage style suitcases!) In my mind, nothing says classically cute like a vividly colored double faced satin ribbon! Picking the right ribbon usually means something that has a touch of stiffness, the ability to tie in a sturdy knot and made with colors that pop. Our Petit Post ribbons checked all those boxes and then some! After you have the perfect ribbon, giving yourself a comfortable amount to work with is the next most important step. There’s nothing that will feel more defeating that trying to tie bow with too little ribbon. Finally, like anything- your bow needs a sturdy foundation and for bows this comes in the form of your center knot. Making sure that the very first knot of your bow is snug will absolutely ensure the end result is tidy and beautiful!

I’m lucky enough to have my mother and my grandmother to thank for my bow tying skills that I now use on a daily basis (not just during the holidays!) While all three of us make bows that can sometimes be tricky to un-tie (depending on how elaborate the bow is), they will always be picture perfect!
